You know when it's a good time to NOT pay attention? When you're sleeping. Or, when absorbed in a good book. Not when you're out and about in public.
You aren't the only person out there. I know, I know, that can be a shock to read. Some people act as if they are the only human beings using a parking lot, walking down a sidewalk or a store aisle, or driving down the road. But, they are not alone.
There are over seven billion people on this hunk of rock we call Earth. Most of them are smooshed together in communities. You have to pretty isolated to not interact with anyone. The chances of being the only person out and about are pretty slim. Even in the dead of night, there are more people present than most realize.
And, everyone has their own agenda. Every person has their own reasons for being where they are, doing what they do. Everyone has their own timetable. We each want to get what we want, when we want it.
So, you're not special. You don't get to inconvenience all other people because your needs are more important. You can't expect that you can be in your own little world, doing your own thing, without repercussions.
Well, I guess you can, but that's a bit unrealistic. Not to mention dangerous. If you don't pay attention, if you don't get your head out of your ass and have some situational awareness, you could put yourself in some seriously harmful scenarios.
And, it's not like it's asking for much. Or, that it's terribly difficult. Just pay a little attention. Look where you're going. Be aware of others. That's it; that's all it takes.
