Don't Be a F^ckt*rd: Traffic Lights 2

Updated: Apr 4, 2021

You know those white lines painted on the road at traffic lights? The ones that indicate where the lead vehicle should be positioned then the light is red? You know when it's a good time to not be stopped all the way up to that white line? Especially the left turn lane?

Never.

A lot of intersections now have traffic sensors. Which means, that if you're not all the way up to that white line, it won't trip the sensor. Which means that you'll be stuck at a light for more cycles than necessary, while the rest of traffic, minus those poor bastards behind you, flows on around you.

And the left turn lane?

Intersections are engineered for traffic to flow through all points, all lanes, as they are arranged. There is plenty of room for everyone to get through, no matter your beliefs about that white line. Even tractor-trailers can get around you.

"But, what if someone cuts the turn too sharp and comes into the left hand turn lane?"

Then, that's on them! They took the turn too tight; they cut it so sharply. You may get a fender-bender, but you won't get in trouble. You were not moving, and you were where you were supposed to be. Now, it's on the dumbass who couldn't drive in their own lane.

And I've done a lot of driving. Through a lot of different very large cities. I've observed traffic, actually been in a lot of traffic. With very rare occasions, I've always observed that no matter how much room is given to them, those turning left, crossing the left-hand turn lane, cut that turn as sharply as possible. It doesn't matter if the lead car is at the white line or an entire car-length back, those cars crossing that turn lane cut through as close as possible. No matter what city I've been in, no matter what the weather, no matter what time of year. For some reason, human nature seems to include cutting left hand turns as short and sharp as possible.

So, do your part to keep the rest of traffic, those stuck behind you, flowing. Get your ass to that white line.

Don't be a Fucktard.
